Professional Background
My great devotion has always been one dedicated to education, to which I have devoted 18 years of my professional career.I graduated, in English Language, from the Universidad de La Laguna in 1986, going on to obtain certificates from both the University of Cambridge and Oxford examination boards. As well as teaching English at various levels, I have also led study trips to the United Kingdom. Specific projects have involved teaching in schools where the objective is to maintain high-level language results, being head of department, and university and in-company language teaching. Additionally, I have also given papers at teaching conferences, worked with others on journal articles, and been coordinator to Madrid-based teachers. In essence, my objective continues to be one that seeks maximum learning competence in the most enjoyable manner of all.
The Company Class Project
After having had contact with language students and English teachers in Madrid, I realised that there could be a demand for something that would motivate and organise teachers collectively, at the same time as supplying a professional language service to the Madrid business community. Excellent English teachers, through an oral and written language teaching that would assist companies in reaching out to the European market, would meet such needs. Consequently, I formed Company Class in May 2003.
The quality teacher, accepting the necessity for multi-site teaching, wants to be well paid for performing in a professional and motivated manner. The majority prefer not to associate themselves with a language school, or academia, that pays very poor rates. Although I'm not suggesting that all operate in such a way, this is a common view held amongst many teachers.
Unfortunately, Spain is near of the English language-learning ladder. Madrid, being the capital and a business centre for numerous European companies, needs to achieve a high degree of linguistic capability.
Company Class, which now boasts 14 teachers (each an expert in giving classes to adults), continues to grow. Each teacher, during the initial months after taking on a class, receives a percentage of the amount charged to the respective company. The financial obligation ceases, though, when the contracted period ends and the teacher and the client. However, Company Class remains at hand to advise the teacher and the client. Even if the teacher decides to move on, Company Class will search for a replacement professional.
The rapid growth of the project over the past few months, and the interest it is creating with teachers and the Madrid business community, have both surprised me and caught me unawares. Therefore, I am making a concerted effort to give a quick answer to the requests of prospective clients by offering a quality service. As a result of client demands, there are prospective projects that continue to emerge, such as classes by videoconference, intensive courses in country retreats, and study trips to the United Kingdom.
I believe that we are reaching the point of satisfying all. Even so, should you wish to comment, please note that we have placed a visitors book at the end of the Company Class home page. We are happy to accept both advice and constructive criticism.
